About me
I firmly believe in our ability to make change in our lives.
For most of us, change occurs through a series of small, imperfect steps. Embarking upon this path requires being gentle with yourself at the start and throughout the process. Sometimes even this gentleness must be learned and practiced.
Change involves evaluating longstanding patterns and considering whether those patterns fit with the life you want for yourself today. Additionally, I believe that our experiences are shaped by our environments, including the ways that society defines and treats us or our communities.
In our work together, we will safely explore the issues that brought you to therapy. With authenticity, compassion and humor, I will guide and support you in this rewarding work. At times I will respectfully challenge thinking and beliefs which get in the way of healing.
I received a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington in 1998. Since then, I have worked steadily in social services with a focus on adults and families affected by abuse, substance abuse and trauma. Additional areas of concentration have included work with veterans, cancer survivors, and those undergoing separation or divorce.
I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma, Relapse Prevention treatment for substance abuse and Motivational Interviewing. I will incorporate elements of psychoeducation, mindfulness and psychodynamic therapy.
I currently treat adults individually for anxiety and depression, grief and loss, transitions and change, self-esteem, family of origin issues and trauma and abuse.
